Winter Pruning in the Vineyard

It's Winter Pruning time at WINEaLOT Vineyards. The temps have been brutally cold the past couple weeks. I'm talking -10F with a -20F wind chill! FINALLY the winds have died down and the temps are reaching positive double digits. It was -2F when I got outside this morning but by the time I went back in the temps reached 14F, A HEAT WAVE!!!

Winter pruning is very important. The extra shoots that grew over summer and fall need to be cut back to make room for new growth next summer. Grapes only grow on new wood so it's important to make room for them.

Of course, my vineyard dog Big Ben is helping as much as he can. He's in charge of digging in the snow and watching for rodents...he loves his job.
